Here’s How You Can Make Your Room Look Bigger
A lot of people would prefer to have a large and spacious house. But due to the rising popularity of tiny houses, more and more people wanted their own tiny living space, too. However, it can also be challenging for designing a house with limited space. Placing large furniture or bed may be out of the question as well.
But just because you live in a small house doesn’t mean you have to settle in a cramped living space. There are a lot of ways that you can make a small room look bigger and more spacious. Of course, you should also make your living space nice to look at, too. Perhaps add a fresh coat of paint in your living room and the other rooms in your house.
Utilizing vertical lines
Fashion experts would often recommend wearing clothes with vertical lines to make you look slimmer and taller. On the other hand, clothes with horizontal or other geometric designs can make you look smaller and unflattering. This simple fashion tip can also be applicable when designing small living spaces.
If you want to make your small living room (or any room for that matter) look more spacious, avoid overdecorating. For example, it is better to use sleek furniture with rectangular or squarish designs. These kinds of furniture will fit a lot easier in most corners and spaces, unlike curvy and plushy furniture.
However, it doesn’t mean you need to give up on curvy decorative accents or furniture. You can choose to use it as a visual point. Say, you can use a large oval mirror with an intricate frame design together with your sleek furniture pieces. But remember not to overdecorate as it can make the room look cramped.
Making the ceiling look higher
There may not be anything you can do on your ceiling, but at least you can do a little trick to make it appear higher. Experts suggest painting the ceiling white or any pale color. Then paint a part of your wall with the same paint color to add an illusion of height and space to your room.
Opting for armless furniture
Most armed furniture such as sofas can take up a lot of space in your living room. Never use these kinds of furniture in small rooms! Instead, opt for simpler and sleeker pieces of furniture. However, there are also types of armed pieces of furniture that are slimmer than the usual luxury plushy sofa sets.
Utilizing storage space
Nothing can make rooms look cluttered than…well, clutter. A lot of personal stuff may inevitably pile up over time, and make storage very challenging. In effect, the room will look smaller and uncomfortable later on. If you do not want to end up looking like a hoarder, you should consider getting an efficient storage system for your home. Bedframes with built-in drawers on each side and under, coffee tables with built-in shelves, ottomans, and wall shelves can do wonders for your storage needs.
Want an easy way to make a room look larger, get a full-body-sized mirror. Aside from giving the illusion of bigger room space, checking out yourself will also be more convenient. However, those half-body-sized mirrors can also work depending on where you put it. The best place you can place mirrors is near a window to let natural light reflect, hence making the room appear more spacious.
