5 Annual Spring Cleaning Tasks Every Homeowner Should Do

The first quarter of the new year is about to come to a close. The global pandemic is still out there, and a lot of people around the world have to stay more at home because of that. This also means more time to do your delayed home improvement projects!

What better time to do your home improvement project than in springtime? It could be a tedious task, to begin with. Where to start? Which room should you begin with? Can you do the home improvement project by yourself or hire a professional to do the job?

Then again, a home improvement project may not always be as laborious as you think. For one, some of these chores are done once a year. You can do the task in one go, or do it one at a time so you will have more free time in your hands. Here are some spring cleaning tasks you should do at least once a year as a homeowner.

Outdoor furniture

Your furniture deserves the love and cares it needs. After all, our pieces of furniture have made ours and our guests comfortable and welcomed in our homes. More so, we need to clean our outdoor furniture as they tend to be exposed to the outside elements. This can be done once a year.

Clean your plastic and wooden pieces of furniture using a mix of liquid dish detergent and warm water. Using a soft-bristled brush, clean your furniture thoroughly then finish it off by hosing it with water. Let it dry under the sun.

Gutter

A clogged gutter can damage your roof and cause leaking inside your house. This kind of home improvement project should be done before winter arrives. However, you might also have to check on your gutters from time to time.

Install gutter guards and make sure to use a sturdy ladder if you are doing the job by yourself. Better yet, contact a professional to do this job for you.

Carpet and indoor furniture

Spring is also the best time to clean your carpet and indoor furniture of any potential allergens such as pet dander and pollen. You can either rent a cleaning machine or hire a professional cleaner. Test your cleaning material first on a hidden spot of the upholstered furniture to ensure that it won’t end up discolored later.

Garage, attic, basement

Seeing these areas of the house untidy compared to the other parts of the house. However, it is also a good idea to have a general cleaning in these areas at least once a year. Get rid of spiderwebs and dust, moisture problems, and other issues. Let go of damaged and unused items for decluttering.

Walls

Perhaps your interior and exterior walls also need some repainting. Make sure to prepare the surface first before painting. Choose the right paint type for the room you are going to paint.
